Babeny Farm Stables

GroomingFull Livery at Babeny Farm Stables

We are currently full as of October 2020

“Our purpose is to provide a safe and happy environment for you and your horse to fully enjoy your time together”

We are situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Dartmoor but within easy 15-minute access to the A38 near Ashburton. We boast some of the best riding and hacking out, that Dartmoor can offer; without the need to even touch a road, riding straight out from the stable. Babeny offers a very friendly and calm atmosphere where horses feel safe and relaxed as part of a herd environment. We find this settles them extremely quickly. The introduction to the herd is carefully managed and all horses are catered and still accounted for as individuals.

Babeny prides itself on calm and experienced staff that maintain the highest standards of care that you would want and trust for your horses welfare. There is no bigger trust needed than to leave your horse in someone else’s hands and as horse owners ourselves we know how difficult that is for anyone.

Over the last few years, we have worked hard to upgrade the facilities on offer. These now include American barn style stables along with a traditional stable block. A spacious tack room offering a place for relaxation with a small kitchenette, table and chairs etc. A new washdown area has recently been installed to complement our ethos and desire, of continuous improvement.

There is a fully refurbished 20m x 40m outdoor sand and rubber arena, which has proved invaluable in all weathers. It drains beautifully and rides well remaining firm and supportive. As a very friendly group we hold monthly events, including clinics, low level jumping and dressage events with an annual Gymkhana. Again, this is a very supportive environment with the focus on fun and building confidence if needed.

As a result, we have very few spaces that become available but if you are interested please do get in touch as naturally the world moves on and change happens at the right time. See below for further info.

The horses are turned out out every day, all year round. They are part of a herd and introduced gradually to avoid injury. They have a 7 day week regular and timely routine and are brought in every morning by 8.00am for a check over, brush, feed if necessary and rug review. After which they are turned out again if you are not riding. In the winter they are stabled over night and out by day. We offer good quality haylage and straw bedding as standard, all included with the  full livery package, as is all care, changing rugs etc. You are welcome to buy small bale hay if preferred. Our grass is nutritious but due to us being over a 1000ft high it doesnt hold the same rich sugar content as lower pasture, and rarely causes any health related issues. Additional services are available such as clipping, mane pulling, exercising e.t.c at an agreed tariff. We have an excellent farrier that normally visits once a week who you pay direct. We are aligned with Phoenix Equine Vets and many of our owners share call out fees for vaccinations etc.

All the horses are in a flu/tetanus and regular worming programme (with worm counts) and we would have the expectation that if your horse was here you would partake in the programme.

We are a very friendly yard with owners happy to share their knowledge of Dartmoor and the great rides available.

Unfortunatley we cannot offer Part or DIY livery but are happy for you to be here as often as you want within the yard opening times.

Please phone us for further details. Our liveries do stay with us for a long time but we do occasionally have openings and would love to try to accommodate you.
